Jon Goulder Studio
Jon Goulder continues a four-generation legacy of producing exquisite, refined furniture. Each piece is handmade from the highest quality materials - an investment designed to be passed down through generations.
Jon is a designer-maker who is widely acknowledged as a master craftsperson. He creates one-off pieces, limited editions, and prototypes by hand in his workshop on Kaurna Land, Adelaide.
Growing up in Bowral, NSW as a fourth-generation furniture maker, Jon’s passion for furniture started young. As a pupil of George Ingham, Inaugural Head of the Wood Workshop at the esteemed ANU School of Art, Jon was able to evolve his practice, being constantly challenged to improve his technique while also demonstrating artistic innovation in original designs.
Defined by his mastery of a unique symmetry between craft and design, Goulder is known for his unique processes working in leather, textiles and wood. His intrinsic attention to detail, confident lines and proportion result in timeless and original pieces to be appreciated now and for generations to come.
Goulder designs and manufactures bespoke furniture and architectural elements for national and international clients. He works in a range of different capacities including exhibitions, private commissions, one-off installations, and royalty and license-based agreements as well as collaborating closely with other studios, designers, and manufacturers to deliver distinctive products of exceptional quality.
Passionately maintaining the designer-maker journey of developing, testing, making, and producing his one-off and limited-edition collections which are represented in Australia, America and Europe, Goulder’s distinct pieces have been featured in major exhibitions and publications around the world. He has won several design prizes and his work is held in the permanent collections of most Australian State and National Museums and Art Galleries, including the National Gallery of Australia.
Alongside his practice, he has also held the position of Senior Designer with Snøhetta Australasia since 2018.
